Help.

So I decided to ask my friend Jerod* why he wasn't a Christian. I felt I was prepared for this since we went over it at youth group. It's a lot harder talking to someone about why they should be a Christian than you think.

He didn't want to fight me about it. He's been my friend for a while and I've never forced my beliefs upon him, so we've always kinda openly talked about it, but not deeply.

I asked why he wasn't a Christian anymore and he told me that the bible contradicted itself more than it made sense, and that it was all bs. He also said he didn't like how someone could be perfectly nice and not believe and go to Hell and then an awful person could do whatever they want and go to heaven because he said he believes.

I didn't really know what to say to that.

Then I said that's what faith is. You're skeptical, and know he's up there and that Jesus died for us. Jesus died for us so we wouldn't have to go to Hell.

I also asked him which world religion he thought might be most true (Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, etc.) and he said Greek Mythology. I told him that was ridiculous and that there wasn't several gods governing over separate things, there's one God.

So there wasn't really anything to say after that. We went back to casually talking after a couple minutes, so it was fine. But he's a dear friend and I'd like to see him back in church and believing and leading a better life.

Also, I don't wanna see him go to Hell.

  1. I would rather see some teens post comments and advice on this subject rather than me, LeAnn or Rob. So, guys, get to it. She's asking for help! I know you guys collectively have the answers she needs....

  2. That question is the first step!
It's great that you care so deeply for him and there are answers!
First of all, we are all born with a sin nature. Christianity is simple in this way, all it takes is accepting Jesus. All men sin so to say this person is "awful" and this person is "good" is unfair.

    Romans 5:19
For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous

We are all unworthy and yet Jesus DIED FOR US! ALL OF US!

It is our mission as Christians to bring the lost back to God (which I see you are doing)
This is just more reason to be strong in our faith and not be discouraged like your friend seems to have been. Instead we need to do what Homer said, WAKE UP! STAND UP! and SPEAK UP!

Keep letting God's light shine through you and being there for him. The best thing you can do is love him.
