One thing that I enjoyed hearing was about John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin who prepared the way for Christ. He lived in the desert, wore camel hair and was baptizing for repentance of sins. John had a following in his own right, and when Jesus came, some of His first disciples were from John. Later, as Jesus' following was growing, John's followers got into an argument and told him that Jesus was baptizing and everyone was going with him. John lets his group know that all he was doing was complete now that Jesus was here, and in John ch 3:30 he says something that has struck me often.
"He must become greater, I must become less"To me, this is one of the greatest truths of Christianity said simply. Most of us have made a life with Christ, accepted the gift of salvation and entered into THE greatest relationship of our lives. Christ lives in us, the Spirit dwells here, in us. GOD forgave us for His sake.....now what? Let Jesus become what people see in you and what you were fade. Allow God to take hold of you, and don't give in to the temptations that seek to take you away from His grasp. Let's be honest, this is not an easy lesson. We have an enemy that KNOWS without a doubt that people will see Christ through us and that will bring people to Him. Our enemy wants to ruin that witness, to bring thoughts of our own importance on whispers. To keep us from reflecting the great Light and Love of Jesus Christ. It is a constant struggle to allow God to become greater, but so worth that struggle.
Pray that God will make Himself greater in your life, that opportunities will be presented so that others will see Christ through You. It is an AWESOME thing to be in our position, loved perfectly by the Creator of all things. Let us make it our purpose, that our lives will serve to amplify Him, making His name greater and what we were less.
So let's do this.
Amen!
